Science and Music Club (levels I, II, and III)

"Science and Music" Club

1st - 4th Grades: Explorers

5th - 8th Grades: Builders

9th - 12th Grades: Theorists

We are THRILLED to launch our Science and Music Club this year! Each week, we will guide students through a concept and a homemade instrument build. In addition to concepts and builds, our aim is to improve musical literacy and provide short, grade-appropriate music theory lessons every week. Each class will be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel for the kids to build their own instruments with parental help and supervision. We will have three levels.

Explorers: 1st - 4th Graders will learn a basic concept (frequencies/waves, oscillation, sympathetic vibrations, etc.) and receive instructions for a fun, at-home activity using everyday items. Mondays, 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Builders: 5th - 8th Graders will learn more advanced concepts (sine waves, ratios of pitch intervals, consonance/dissonance, etc) and learn to build simple instruments from food items. Wednesdays, 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Theorists: 9th - 12th Graders will learn the mathematical principals on which Western musical structure (known as equal temperament) is based and experiment with Microtonal Music. We will build kit guitars, theremins, drums, and learn the history of instrument-building along with common issues instrument builders faces. Fridays, 4:00pm - 5:00pm
